This is when I have to hold back from some of my favorite painting practices.  My medium usage draws back to a trickle, as the humidity rises and drying time lengthens. Interference colours are cool...and strange, and sometimes ultra kitsch.  But I love them! Check out how my finger blocking the direct light on this swatch of Interference Blue Liquid Acrylic makes the shaded area look orangy-yellow.  This is the complementary colour lightwave, lurking in the shadows.  A play of light. Handmade, store bought, improvised...stencils are a great break-through-the-block tool. Sometimes I just need to paint something, work with a texture, but I'm empty of shapes, of images, of anchors. I turn to the stencil and my gels. It may not be wholly original, however, it can be a starting point, or the tassel than finishes the piece.

I think that my colour of the day is Tri-Art Liquid Mirror.Inspiration in a jar, this stuff. Made from the same pigment used to produce mirrors, it has a tiny pigment particle size and a mercurial, highly reflective quality. Add a layer of clear medium over top to enhance it's reflectivity. This jacket, featured in New Acrylics Essential Sourcebook, is made primarily from Tri-Art semi-gloss gel medium, Payne's grey (Tri-Art Liquid) and Mother of Pearl (Tri-Art Liquid). The only other materials used were metal button bases and florists wire to reinforce the collar.
